First of all, if you are going to buy an off-set umbrella, be sure it is well secured. Either bolt it to the deck, or invest in a base that you fill with concrete. If you don’t, you risk having it blow over. And that goes for any off-set, not just this one. Also, off-sets are a bit of a pain to raise and lower the mechanism, but as I only use mine on weekends, I raise it on Friday and lower it on Sunday. You don’t have to lower it to close the canopy at night. As for this model, I purchased the Ace Evert umbrella to replace my old one, which was about 5 or 6 years old. I don’t know the manufacturer of the old one, but the hole pattern in the bottom pole section of the Ace Evert matched perfectly with the old one, so I didn’t have to replace the old “T” shaped mount brackets that are already bolted to my deck. The canopy material is thinner on this compared to the heavier canvas of the old one, but it still provides ample shade. The canopy has a tendency to close ever so slightly in moderate winds as there is not a latch to keep the crank handle in place and tension on the cable, so I use a small bungee cord on the handle. A minor inconvenience. I contacted Ace Evert customer service about the canopy wanting to close, but their agreement with Amazon is for Amazon to handle any issues. Not really fair to Amazon as this is a design problem, but at least Ace returned my emails, as did Amazon. The umbrella may not be constructed of the highest quality materials, but as others have pointed out, for , this is a very good buy. I received it within 10 days, and I’ve used it for 3 weeks now in light to moderate winds with no problems. I’ve placed photos in the “Customer Images” section.
